Wedding invitation wording in English

An Indian wedding card in English follows this order: a blessing at the top (Shri Ganeshaya Namah), the elders whose blessings you seek, the parents who invite, the couple's names with their parents, the date, day and time, the venue, the programme of functions, and at the end the family members who await you and a line from the children. Below is ready wording for every part: replace the words in [brackets].

Questions

What do you write at the top of an Indian wedding card?

Most families start with || Shri Ganeshaya Namah || or the Vakratunda Mahakaya shloka, so the occasion begins with Lord Ganesha's blessing.

Who sends the wedding invitation, the parents or the couple?

Traditionally the parents invite, with the grandparents' blessings named first. Many modern couples now invite guests themselves, especially friends; both are fine.

Is it okay to send a wedding invitation on WhatsApp?

Yes, most families now invite on WhatsApp. Call the elders as well, or give them a printed card, so no one feels left out.

How early should we send the invitations?

3–4 weeks before the wedding for guests in the same city, 6–8 weeks for guests who must travel, with a reminder 2–3 days before.

Can I make a wedding invitation video for free?

Yes. On Sitaaro the wedding invitation film is free: add your names, dates and two photos, and send the MP4 with music on WhatsApp. No app or sign-up.
